Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was convicted of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than 27 years in jail, but he was staying under home detention pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.

This involved trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could enable a possible escape.

Court Filing Details Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the custody, the judge said information from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the former leader's plan to remove the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the protest called by his child.

His offspring, Flávio, who holds office as a senator, called for a assembly of his supporters near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday evening.

Context of Sentencing

Bolsonaro was found guilty of leading a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he lost the national vote to his political opponent, President Lula.

High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a plan which included plans to assassinate Lula and his running partner, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill Justice Moraes - the top judicial official who has been managing the former president's case.

The scheme was stopped because it didn't receive the endorsement of the military leaders. The current president was took office without problem on the first day of 2023.
